This is fading over time and it would not prevent me from recommending these boots for riding. I would just be careful during the break in period, especially if you wear them straight out of the box for a ride. It's probably safer to wear them for a few days before riding just to scuff up the soles enough not to slip and slide around while holding up a 700lb plus bike.
