One end attaches magnetically to a mount that sticks with adhesive to the intended surface, while the other attaches to a similar mount stuck to the back of your phone or phone's case. I ordered it to provide an extension that would allow my phone to hang in front of the dashboard so I could plug in the charging cord while using the phone for navigation. I did NOT want a suction mount because none works well in my experience. This one is fantastic, it works like and extended Steelie Ball and the magnetic force at both ends is much stronger than I expected.
