I don't know for sure but have a feeling the poly would melt the wax. This is a wax you rub on a small area and then buff. The brown wax color will slightly tint the surface. There are some good YouTube videos. **Q: What is the shelf life of this product?** A: I have a can that is 30 yrs old and still has the same properties it did when new. As long as the can is sealed, it'll keep for years! **Q: If I use the dark brown on raw light(pine) wood, will the result be even like a stain or would it turn out blotchy? My intention is to darken evenly.** A: I turned an 8" segmented pine bowl on my lathe about a year ago. I sanded it to about 500 grit. A medium coat of the wax produced a beautiful semi-gloss finish. I buffed it with a paper towel on the lathe after letting it dry for about 10 minutes. I am quite satisfied. There was no sign of blotches and it turned out at least as dark as oil based stain. I've used Briwax Original (no color) for years. This was my first time with the Dark Brown. It reminds me of soft shoe polish. It produces a finish that might be called Dark Walnut. I quit after one coat because it looked so good. Start to end time was about 20 minutes. Oil stain would have been hours. It's now been several months and it looks and feels as good as the first day. Yes, I would recommend it. **Q: Would this be appropriate for an antique piano?** A: I use Briwax on an antique table that is about 150-200 years old. This does a beautiful job of waxing and staining at the same time. In time the stain lightens but just give it another coat. Test it out on a small patch. I think you will be pleased with the result. I needed to restore the top, but did not want to actually refinish it. I needed something to smooth out the finish, remove some water rings, and smooth the finish where packing tape had left the patina in the wood but removed the top finish.This wax did all that. I am quite used to working with bees wax and carnauba, so I wasn't sure what this was going to get me. I did like the colored wax; that helped a lot. Yet better, the solvent for the wax softened the top finish of unknown origin, smoothed out the rest, and left a beautiful sheen. It got even better as I rubbed it a bit the second day, and again on the third day.Much of the patina is still there, now with a good, smooth finish.
