This is what you need! Works great but one thing to know. (also Fragile).

If you have a new Macbook from April 2010+, and are looking for an adapter for HDMI W/ audio THIS IS THE ONE. I spent 30 minutes looking through Amazon to make sure it would be the right one, so let me save you the trouble and say it is!Make sure you go to settings and switch audio to "HDMI out".Now the problem... It's not a problem with this product at all (thus the 5 star rating). The Macbook won't control the volume with the keyboard through HDMI out, you have to control it from the TV/Monitor/external speakers. Not sure why, I guess that's just how Digital audio works. This was a surprise to me, so I wanted to let you all know that. The audio sounds fantastic!Edit 6 months later:I had to replace it (see my comment) already. I was transporting it back and forth only a few times and it just stopped working. I replaced it, it's been about 3 months so far. No problems. If it remains working for a while I will put it back up to 5 stars, but it seems I am not the only one with this problem of it lasting. Still it is far cheaper than the Apple version.Edit 1 year later:Taking another star off. I think I have to replace it already, it shorts out on an hourly basis now. When a phone rings it will either mess with the picture or go totally to black. I am disappointed with the fact that I'll have to buy one every 6 months at this rateEdit 2 or so years later:I kept the one from above, it would have intermittant trouble but it was mostly good. It just died (see comment). 2 stars now. If you're thinking about buying this, honestly buy two. It's still pretty cheap, and you'll have an extra for when the first inevitably fails. I am not really sure there are other options out there in this price range. If you do buy something else, make sure it sends audio out, about 4/5 of all the adapters don't seem to.

    Works with some limitations

*by A***G on Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on July 19, 2011*

I have a current generation MacBook Pro (MacBook Pro 8,2 - purchased June 2011) with the Thunderbolt capability. I was not successful directly connecting to a front projector (Panasonic AE2000), but did have some success connecting to a Onkyo amplifier (the Onkyo amplifier connects to the projector via HDMI). The MacBook could transfer image (looks good!) and audio through the digital portion out of HDMI cable. EXCEPT when I selected the 6-channel AC3 track of the program the sound came out of the wrong speakers (the dialog came out of the left surround speaker). It could be the internal AC3 decoder in the Mac or the routing in the HDMI cable was messed up. When I went back to the LTRT mix (Dolby stereo) all was fine and the sound was in the right place. I'm pretty sure it will work with a direct connect to an HDMI television - hence I plan to keep the converter and at this price, why not?Bottom line: I will continue to use the Apple brand Mini-Display port to DVI and a DVI to HDMI cable to drive projectors and monitors (without sound), but this will work when I visit a friend with an HDMI television and it will drive both image and audio. If I want higher quality audio, I will use the optical out of the MacBook to the AC3 capable amplifier. Others have had problems with quality, but it is too early for me to comment on that. Mine seemed fine out of the box.PS I had tried a Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Adapter Cable, 6 feet () and it did not work at all with this model MacBook.

Connection goes bad after a few uses

*by M***O on Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on June 14, 2011*

Update (2012): They now make cables where one end is HDMI and the other is mini displayport (Just search: "mini displayport to hdmi cable.") In my opinion, this is a much better option; less hardware to deal with and works great.----------------QUICK SUMMARY:(1) If you have a stationary setup, have your laptop on a desk, and won't be moving anything, then give it a try.(2) If you move your laptop around a lot, plan to unplug a lot, or use your laptop on a couch/bed with the cord dangling, don't get this one. It will most likely stop working.----------------FULL REVIEW:When I received the cable I was very happy and it worked great. It had great video quality and didn't need any set up, just plug and go. I can't comment on audio as I have the late 2009 version of the MacBook Pro - but I hooked up speakers to my headphone jack and that worked well for me.*However*, the connection went bad within 2 weeks after maybe 10 uses. I'm guessing that if you always have it plugged in and rarely touch it, it should be fine for you. However, if you're constantly moving your laptop and unplugging the adapter (I carry my laptop everywhere with me) then you'll probably have to deal with the same problem that so many other reviewers have written about: IT STOPS WORKING. I didn't heed their warnings because of the rest of the good reviews...please don't be like me and save yourself some trouble! In my case, the connection went bad. Video would randomly disconnect, then 2 seconds later randomly reconnect, then disconnect again. The adapter was crazy sensitive and would disconnect when I brushed against it lightly or when I moved my laptop to a different angle. I did try different HDMI cords as well as HDTV's (the adapter worked with both before it broke.)Amazon, as always, was great and refunded my money in full after I sent the product back (they pay for the return shipping.) Great service but a hassle none-the-less.
