Great little tank bag that can hold a surprising amount for its size but can leave subtle marks

*by A***D on Reviewed in the United States on July 14, 2014*

I own a 2014 CB500f which this tank bag works great for. The tank is metal but there are pieces that hug the tank in the front that are plastic, so the magnets that are more rear mounted work great. Whereas tank bags that have rectangular flaps that rely on attaching to the sides of the tank both in the front and the back won't work for the bike, this little tank bag with its 3 strong magnets in the back that spread out and the one central magnet in the front work perfectly.4 stars because I am completely satisfied with it but could have some simple changes to make it 5 star worthy.Pros:Applicability - Works wonderfully for metal tanks that don't have exposed metal on the sides in the front of the tank.Size - I have been pleasantly surprised with the amount of stuff that this tank bag can hold. This is my first tank bag and despite reading reviews and looking at many pictures of this tank bag, it has exceeded my expectations of how much it can hold. I have been able to fit the following (separately) into this tank bag so that you can get an idea: a standard US 1 gallon milk container; 2 "to go" styrofoam clamshell containers, and 2 tiny cups of dessert; 2 size 10 shoes with gym clothes stuffed partially in them and a 10 inch x 4 in x 3in lunch box. The phone pocket works for an iphone just fine and you can touch through the plastic (with bare fingers). Don't expect to use this as an overnight bag but I think it is possible if you travel light (1 or 2 changes of clothes and toiletries). It works great as an errand runner and great to grab a couple things from the store or to take things for a commute.Accessibility - The zippers have "tags" that are easy to manipulate with gloves on and the phone compartment is especially useful if you have something you need to take out quickly (ex: a badge).Stickability - Does a great job of staying firmly on the bike. Even at highway speeds of 70-80 mph (with some sidewind) and 55-60mph with significant diagonal wind (20-30mph steady) it has held on with no signs of budging.Magnet safety - From about one month of normal use of the tank bag I haven't had the magnets wipe my magnetic strip cards (credit cards etc) even though they usually reside in my front pocket and I carry my tank bag around that level.Cons:Marks - Seems to leave what looks like subtle scuff marks on the tank that don't seem to come off even after washing. They might be more like mini scratches. I have also noticed VERY tiny scratches, but it is also possible those are just imperfections or lighting. I tend to take it off and put it on by avoiding as much dragging of the magnets but also do it quickly such that there probably is some inherent dragging of the magnets. The marks are much more noticeable on my black tank and I think it would be almost completely invisible on a tank of a different color.CD Holder - There's the compartment in the back (the big circular one visible in the pictures) that is separate from the main compartment. It is fairly thin and has a exit for headphones that lead me to believe it is a CD player holder. I would wish they would realize that isn't as relevant of a feature any longer for most riders and could have used that additional space for the main compartment. I suppose if you wanted to, you could tear out the membrane that separates the main compartment and this compartment and have an extra entrance to the main compartment. It would have been better if they removed this and had a headphone port leaving the phone compartment on the top.Overheating phones - A phone in the phone compartment (which doesn't have any ventilation) that has sunshine hitting it (which is not uncommon since it is on the top and isn't easily covered by much) can easily overheat. The only possible mitigation to this would be to have ventilation but I imagine it's a flaw for all tank bags that have clear phone holders since they naturally have to be on top and exposed to sunlight. In my case it has also been in temperatures in the 90's (F) and above, with the sun shining directly on it.Overall I think it was a worthwhile purchase that suits my needs. If I need to carry more, I can carry a backpack and I can hold most things that I ever need to on a motorcycle. The tank bag is useful for my commutes so I don't have to have a backpack partially blocking the back vents of my jacket. Very versatile little tank bag that holds more than I expected and definitely meets my needs.

Adequate; small top pockets; good for light packers

*by A***R on Reviewed in the United States on October 9, 2015*

Adequate for the price. Saw some reviews about the tiny top pocket for mobile phones and should have paid attention; only phone that can reasonably fit in that tiny pocket is a Gen I iPhone without any type of case. That pocket is useless for new design Samsung Galaxies or larger mobiles. Design appears older as the front pocket looks like it was designed for an old school Discman! Pocket is shallow and circular so it only holds my wallet and iPhone 6. Now to the main pocket; its long and shallow and confirms well to my FJR1300 sport touring bike; this is the main reason for purchase. It'll hold a spare face shield, a lightweight pair of extra gloves, small point and shoot camera, and that's about it. Strong, grippy magnets.

    Convenient

I use this daily on my bike to transport my wet gear and have a place to put a few tools. I hoped the zippers, particularly the one for the phone or gps case would have been more solidly constructed but it did serve its purpose. I placed this on my Harley Iron 883. I could place a slightly bigger one on but this fits the bill. Not for use to carry heavy loads of overstuffing as the zippers are cheaply made.
