Review: Detailed Photos and Cleaning Tips-- DOESN'T LEAK! - This has been my favorite of all the hot lunch travel containers. I purchased two of this product, as well as two each of the 24 oz container and the 10 oz container. It has kept foods warm for 9 hours so far, with the best results being soups and other mainly liquid based items. My husband and I have both been using these containers most weekdays for the last 3 months and have had no issues. We both live and work in a city and rely on public transportation to get around, so our bags get tossed around and smushed, but absolutely no leaks thus far with this or the 24 oz version. This is the perfect amount of food for me, but it's a little too small for my husband, who prefers the 24 oz container. PROS: Does as advertised and keeps food hot for hours Durable construction Easy to clean (see cleaning tips for more info) Completely leak proof!! CONS: "footprint" is slightly large considering the size Spoon is useful but harder to clean because it folds (I put it through the dishwasher) Must be careful to not over tighten the lid while food is hot or it's hard to open later HOW TO USE: Either heat water in the microwave or if you have very hot tap water, fill the container with heated water Cap using the inner screwtop lid Wait 10-15 minutes, using this time to heat up whatever you'll want to eat for lunch Pour out water and fill with food Close inner lid (be careful how tight you screw the lid on, as it cools slightly this makes it hard to open) Wait until lunch and eat hot to warm food depending on how long it's been CLEANING: You'll notice in the detailed picture that there is a clear silicon seal around the inner lid. Others have noted that they can't get this clean and mold grows. I slip this ring off and clean all parts separately, by hand, then allow them to air dry. Even with near daily use they still work wonderfully! If anything, I'm thinking about purchasing a few more because I'm lazy and wouldn't mind having one I could bring additional cold items in. PHOTO DESCRIPTION: The first photo is a comparison of each of the three models I've purchased. You'll see a size comparison between an iPhone 4 and an desertcart Kindle (and a Border Collie leering in the background). The second photo is all the components with the same scale reference of an iPhone 4. These are the parts from TWO containers so I could so all the different aspects and parts at the same time. Review: Great food jar with amazing insulation - Well, we are farmers and have turned to thermos for years for hot beverages to keep our food hot in the field. This year, we decided it was time to upgrade our line of thermoses. Not knowing what to get, we bought two of each Sipp-line Thermos food jars (teal and plum) and four Thermos King jars for a total of 8. All performed the same. The king line has a spoon on top, which we found is more in the way and likely to be lost, so we go without the travel spoon. We have keep everything in these jars from eggs to casserole/hotdishes to soup. It really does keep food hot for the 7 hours as promised. We found if we fill the thermos with hot water first to warm the lining, and then fill with the food, it kept it warmer longer than the promised 7 hours. All in all, we love both lines and would highly recommend it to hard workers out there who want a warm meal while away from the house. UPDATE: 11/21/14: It's not been almost 2 years since we've purchased these and they still perform amazingly well. We 100% stand by the trick of putting hot water in the thermoses first to heat the walls while we finish cooking. My dad hates this trick because when he opens up his thermos a few hours later, he has to take time to allow his food to cool down (parents - something to think about if packing lunches for kids). I do notice that we tend to gravitate to grabbing the "King" line over the "Sipp" when we pack our food. I'm not sure why that is ... it could be because we have darker colors for the King line and in our mind that would "wear" better (aka not scuff) while being thrown around all day. Second reason is probably because it is easier to open than the Sipp (creates a vacuum sometimes). I'm really not sure why we favor one over the other - never really thought about it. It's not a conscious decision that we grab the Kings first - just happens. That being said, all the thermoses (King, Sipp) do look brand new still after all this time and being banged around in lunch boxes. My brother-in-law does like the King better as it hold the portable spoon in it so that is one less thing he has to worry about packing. Me - the spoon is the first thing I removed from mine. All thermoses are expensive up front, but for all the meals we used in them over the past 2 years, they have easily paid for themselves over and over again.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: how do I get the plastic gasket seal that was attatached to lid? lost mine somehow**
A: As of fall of 2016 they were still offering the gaskets. I think I just sent 5 bucks and asked them to send as many gaskets as that would buy. They sent 3 - but not just the gasket but the entire plastic lid as well.

**Q: How long many hours will the Thermos keep contents warm? I need to warm the soup, etc and then pack it in a lunch.**
A: Soup and stews stay hot for a long time. I leave to work at 5:30am and have lunch around 1, and it is always hot. When it comes to food that is not liquid or in sauce, like baked fish and veg, it is still warm 7-8 hours later, but not as much as soup and liquids which stay very hot for hours.

**Q: I can't decide between two Thermos 16-ounce food jars - the Stainless Steel King or the Stainless Steel food jar (plum or teal colored). Any recommendations on which is better ?**
A: I have the Thermos King and the Thermos Nissan food container, both 16 oz. I don't think you can go wrong with either. Both do a great job of keeping products cold/hot. The Thermos King is a little shorter and wider and the Nissan is slightly taller and narrower. The Thermos King has the lid for the jar (with the fold up spoon) and a stainless steel cap that goes over the lid. The Nissan just has the plastic lid for the jar. The King looks like it might be more insulated (?-guessing here just by the looks and the weight). I have the midnight blue Thermos King and it's a nice color, almost black with a hint of the blue under the light. The Nissan is all stainless steel with a black cap. Regarding the SS Food Jar (plum or teal) I can't say specifically since I do not own this version however, comparing the 2 products I think I would go with the King because it of the 2 lids/caps and the spoon and might be more insulated. The food jar keeps hot for 7 hours and cold for 9 hours. The Thermos King keep food hot for 9 hours and cold for 12 hours.

**Q: Is it easy enough for a small child to open it?**
A: The children’s thermoses are easily opened by my kids when they were as young as 6. I didn’t have them when they were 5. But this one would be tougher for a young 6 year old. My 8 year old can do it, and my nearly 7 year old can, also. But the kid ones are easier and you do need to be sure not to tighten them too much for younger kids. We use them weekly and my kids haven’t asked me to open theirs in a long time.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Definitely a step up from the collapsible water bowl for your small dog!
*by L***S on September 17, 2021*

Let me start by saying I purchased this container November 2010 (per Amazon) and with moderate to heavy use in the winter months, this Thermos has had no issues with leaks, cracks, peeling, altitude, or keeping foods hot or cold. This was my go-to container for the winter months to keep stews and soups hot until lunchtime and it has never let me down! It seals well keeping in heat and cold. I would make a large batch on the weekend and microwave enough to fill the container each morning after its hot water soak. I would leave home at 6:00 and eat lunch between 1 & 2:30 pm and my meal was still hot! Not steamy hot, but hot. Now that I’m home full time, I have found a better use for the wide opening and its ability to keep cold-things-cold. It’s perfect for my Dachshunds or any small dog as a portable water bowl! It’s definitely a step up from the collapsible water bowl and the best part? Since Rusty likes ice water, the opening is large enough to accommodate full size ice cubes in his water! Its compact size & weight makes it perfect for my drawstring sportspack and its easy to refill at a fountain should you need. The foldable spoon is a nice touch and wish I hadn’t lost mine, but it is what it is. I haven’t tested the hot or cold for the number of hours it claims, but it is nice to know that I have time on the clock. Overall, a smart looking thermos which is durable and does it job well! Like a fine bottle of wine, the Thermos brand has been around since the early 1900s and has only gotten better with its products and time. Highly recommend!
