Our game seems to have enough complexity for most players, and is a bit more easily understood. We seek to have all ages play the game and prefer it with less confusing elements, but there are some who like the Schmidt version. When you play with a small group you have to overbid your hand a bit and when playing with a large group you need to underbid your hand a bit. When playing with just two players this is especially the case. My wife and I play it this way often. The one thing to watch out for with two players is to be careful with a zero bid.
