Adjusting the depth setting all the way down still left the fastener quite proud of the surface. It wasn't until I removed the plastic protector from the nose that it would at least set the fastener flush with the surface. I don't know, maybe mine is flawed. And the magazine is a little tricky to load also. If you don't get the fasteners in their proper position for their particular length, you can still close the magazine but it won't drive the fastener.
