Quality as hoped for. Minor instruction sheet gripes. *by A***H on Reviewed in the United States on May 2, 2015* Short version: The G2 met expectations in all respects and minor instruction sheet gripes were easily overcome.The long version:After about 3-5 hours of reading reviews and discussion with workmates (every one of them had a strong opinion on tonneau covers), I chose the BakFlip G2 for my 2015 Toyota Tacoma 4 door short bed. I based my decision on the anticipation of 4 season use here in West Virginia, casual theft resistance, anticipated durability and precipitation resistance. As I only installed just today (May 2, 2015) I shall only address how expectations were met in ease of installation, inspection of delivered quality and satisfaction with fit and finish.First the "Not 5 Star" comment that is important. I did not deduct any stars for this but the one page of instructions, while accurate and simple, were NOT complete. When we were finished, we had 3 short + 1 long foam rubber sticky backed pieces. Nowhere in the instruction sheet were they mentioned. Being mildly concerned at left over parts we made a quick tour of the manufacturers website and looked at the instructions specific to my truck and the G2. What a difference! The PDF on the website was 8 pages long, had rock solid, easy to understand illustrations, pictures and most importantly, complete directions. The short foam rubber pieces were VERY NECESSARY to prevent damage to the cab of the truck when the G2 is fully flipped open. The long piece of foam is not needed for my particular truck, it's only needed for non-bed-liner equipped trucks. With that resolved, we moved on to the final question.Again, a "not 5 star" but non-critical installation aspect. The drain tubes are barely addressed in the accompanying instructions and again the online PDF had the answer. For my Toyota it is necessary to widen out the factory drain holes in the bed liner to accommodate the drain tubes from the rail system that mounts the G2. This is a minor hassle as I need a 7/8" drill bit and will have to get one to do the job. Personally, I would prefer to NOT drill holes in my bed liner as you cannot make them smaller in the future. There is no reason at all to not have simple downsize adapters so I will either find such or go back to Plan A and widen out the factory holes.While the above complaints are minor they are also quite easy to fix. BakFlip should include the instructions that are on their website rather then the one sheet "suitable for a 6 pack and two buddies" level of instruction that is in there now.Total install time, including the PDF review and some back and forth to the truck, less then an hour. Total actual physical effort, maybe 30 minutes. Total difficulty was well within a solo teenager's capacity but having my wife help was nice. Tools needed, one 1/2" crescent wrench.Now on to the reasons I gave 5 stars.Installation is not hard at all! While I may have had some minor gripes about the instruction sheet, they were 100% answered with a quick tour of the BakFlip website. The minimal tool requirement was appreciated. If you were really into it, you could even get tool-less bolts from your favorite fastener store and that would allow you to completely remove the G2 mounting rails in the field. I don't why you would want to do that but there's always someone that has that one special need. *You can make a complete removal of the tonneau cover itself without tools* but the rails will require a 1/2' crescent wrench if it gets to that level. The ability to remove the cover itself without tools shows that this cover was developed with customer input. I like that a lot.Another reviewer mentioned that you lose the use of your factory sliding tie downs. This is completely correct. You use the tie down rails to mount the G2 rails and the factory rails become inaccessible. This is a necessary sacrifice for installation integrity. It is also trivially disappointing but I don't see any way around it.The G2 was packed very well and arrived undamaged. The weight is manageable by a single person but the box with the G2 in it is a bit bulky of course. I did not weigh it, but I expect it was over 20#, possibly between 30 and 40. Expanding foam was used in the boxing process which left no unprotected corners or loose bits. The shipper would have had to score a direct hit with a forklift or dropped the box onto a corner from significant height to damage the G2. Full props to BakFlip's packaging and shipping department.The quality of the G2 was exactly as described in the manufacturer video and website claims. How rare! Everything fit as it should, all pieces were included and none left over once the installation PDF had been properly reviewed online. There were some mildly curious grind marks on both of the rails along one particular edge that appeared to be extrusion flaws being corrected. These were noticeable but in no way interfered with installation or quality, they were merely noticed. The hinges and weather seals met my requirements and expectations as well. If it leaks more then a dribble I will come back and comment.I am satisfied because all my expectations were met and the installation went as hoped. ### ⭐⭐⭐ Hope you're prepared to modify it. *by M***S on Reviewed in the United States on March 11, 2020* Listen, it's a Bakflip.I got this cover because the price dropped about $100 while it was sitting in my cart. It showed up and was packed fine. When I went to install it, I was ready for an amount of removing and re-mounting, loosening and tightening to get it just right. However, what I didn't expect to have to do was remove the guards over the white locking spring bars on each side of the cover (the ones in each section, attached to the pull cords), slide them in half an inch, and then re-secure them. Without doing that, I kept moving the cover from side to side, adjusting less than 1/8th of an inch in either direction to get it to sit and lock. After an hour of doing that, I moved those guard pieces (mentioned earlier) and then everything started locking in place.The instructions don't tell you to install the plastic buckle clips on the front of the cover before installation of the cover on its rack system, so I'll have to lift the front section to install those. I haven't installed the drains yet, so I can't attest negatively to water resistance yet, though it appears that even without the drains, in light rain when I'm moving, water doesn't get in.Overall, it will require some preparedness. The track system was stupid easy to install, and for the cover, you should have your preferred impact driver on hand with a #2 phillips tip. My Milwaukee Fuel M12 made quick work of it. It's doable with one person, but easier with two, the cover now fits snug and the seal feels tight, and it looks really clean. For $700, I'd hoped it would be a simple drop and go. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ I am fairly impressed *by L***. on Reviewed in the United States on May 29, 2014* I saved for quite some time and I was able to purchase the BakFlip G2. I installed this myself and I must say this is a well engineered system and fits my 2012 Toyota Tacoma perfectly. The installation took me around 30 minutes by myself and everything fit together very well. There have been some heavy down pours and I have not seen any leaks.Cons: You have to open the tailgate in order to open the cover. If you open the tailgate, you have to open the cover, close the tailgate, then close the cover. If you have a lock for your tailgate, you can take a coat hanger to manipulate the release cord and open the cover. I plan to fabricate and install a shield to prevent such a thing from happening. The system utilizes the Toyota Tacoma side rails which prevents you from using your tie down system.Pros: The system doesn't appear to leak. It fits the truck perfectly and it looks sharp. It is very strong and it will hold my 300lb fat body. It is light weight and doesn't appear to affect the gas mileage in a negative way.I am overall happy with this product.
