This attaches to the side of the metal vent hood over the stove top via magnets. I was concerned that the magnets might not be strong enough to stay in place when I tore a paper towel off the holder, but my concerns were unnecessary. The magnets are very strong and allow me top pull the roll and tear off a sheet without the holder moving at all. Also, I've seen some comments complaining about the bolts on the side being silver; mine, however, was painted black so maybe the company heard customer comments and took them to heart.
