I am very happy that I went with the Ideal Pet Products small door for our slider. I did install it with ease and made a couple of changes that I want to share to help others who can save some cash with this door for as the most reasonable I could find. I used the insulation that came with the door on the opposite side that butts into the frame of my slider. I went to home depot and picked up a thicker and wider foam for adhering to the slider door edge to close against the pet door frame. Works much better, totally no gap at all, most of all no draft. As for the lock, don't bother to use it. In its place I cut a broom stick to my open channel dimension and snuggly fits right in at the bottom of the frame and holds the sliding door tightly against the pet door frame. Perfect, easy to open the slider when needed, just lift out the broom stick and open while the pet door stays in position all secured. The pet door is excellent, very nice quality pet door, great looking glass, and the frame looks great, I went with the mil, aluminum selection as my slider is brown, and white wouldn't work but mil looks terrific. I find this pet door very Professional, not cheap. Just do the additional frost seal upgrade and saw off a broom stick handle to fit the rail holding the sidetracked and your good to go. As for the dog, she's 3 lbs. Only a puppy but very curious. The first time through the door we helped her. The second time through we coach her with a treat, took a long time, but now she been poking her head at it all day. Won't be long as she loves to go on the deck. Hopefully we can move her pee pad tray out there and eliminate it in th house. Good luck, hope this helps you decide on your dog or cat door purchase option.

I ordered the small size for up to 15 pounds. I first received the wrong one for cats but once reported to Amazon the replacement was received very fast. The product was very easy to assemble and install to the patio door. I wish the product came with additional weather proofing material but I purchased my own. Once all installed it is very tight and weather proof, looks nice too. The small size is for up to 15 pounds, my dog weighs about 10 to 11 pounds but I think if she gains 1 or 2 more pounds she won't fit through.

It would have been a 5 star product except for some things that seem to be a common theme among the reviewers. I had to modify the product to get it to fit my sliding glass door also. Had to take off about 1" and it took me about 15 minutes extra with a hand hacksaw. No biggie, but kiss any warranty goodbye, although I highly doubt I will need it,Also the piece of weatherstripping they give you is next to useless. Expect to be heading to your local hardware store to pick up several rolls of air conditioner foam weather stripping, I needed (4) 4' rolls.This stuff is ultra cheap, why couldn't it be provided? Buy enough to cover the gap between the frame of the pet door and the frame of the sliding door, the space between the pet door and the sliding door itself, and the gap that is left between the two halves of the sliding door, since they likely will no longer seal, since the door will not be completely shut.Also expect to pick up something to make sure your sliding door is secure and tight against the pet door. I used a set-screw style window stop in the bottom rail of my door, and drilled a small hole on the bottom rail to keep the stop from sliding. The top already had a steel pin to lock the door in place. I just added a new hole in the top of the frame. Something like a stick or a piece of PVC in the bottom might work, but I found that the top of the door would be cocked, and I had a gap up there that would not seal. Finally I ran some duct tape along both sides of the pet door to seal out any small leaks the weatherstrip didn't catch.This managed to keep everything draft-free.Total install time, including trips to Lowe's: about 2 1./2 hours.Once it was installed though, I found it did a great job. It's pretty sturdy, and now that it is locked in place right, I won't worry about someone kicking their way through and getting into the house.I have two cats that learned to use the door pretty much the same night. One of my cats is elderly (he's 11 going on 12) and he sometimes won't use it when I know he wants to go out. I still am not sure if it is because the flapper door catches on his tail and aggravates him, or if the little dipsy-do move he has to make to step up or down onto the patio makes his joints ache. My other cat who is 7 has no problems at all and is in and out at her whim now. No more playing doorman for me!In a totally perfect world, I would probably give the product a 3/12 star rating due to the initial installation hassles. But once you get pass that, it's been everything I hoped, and even a little more. So I'll give the product the benefit of the doubt and round up to 4 stars.

Absolutely love my doggy door! It was so easy to assemble and install and very quick. I know it took me probably less than 30 minutes, I would even venture to say less than 20 minutes. It's sturdy the glass is thick and my puppies love it. I would recommend it.

Very flimsy not very sturdy

Love it. Have been looking for a patio pet door this size with a cat size opening to allow only them into the bedroom and not our two Basset hounds. They have their own entry through the other patio door. This door is solid and perfect for our needs.

It was so easy to put together! I did it on my own and didn't need help. Good quality! Actually, GREAT quality! I shopped around and for this price I was questioning what I was getting but truly I am happy I decided on this. I got the smallest one for my 5 and 7 pounds dogs, worked great!

Kitty goes outside when she is at home, but Grandma cannot let her go outside - its a dangerous place for little snacks like Kitty. She does like to sit out on Grandma's screened in porch and look at nature. After a couple of days being doorman for Kitty, Grandma decided to get a special kitty door for the glass doors. A couple of days and a box of treats later, Kitty was trained and everybody is happy.
