The problem is that the original drive seal, well, doesn’t, and it allows water from the tub to get into the shaft bearings. They corrode and make a horrendous racket while turning. Eventually, they will seize up and the washer will stop working, with just an error code on the screen. Before mine gave up the ghost, I decided to attempt the repair. I got quick answers from the seller on it fitting my machine. The cost was more than reasonable, as it includes the bearing installation tool. The tool alone, under the Whirlpool/Maytag brand, costs $20+ more than this whole kit! I followed a YouTube video from AppliancePartsPros.com, and the repair was complete in a little over 2 hours. You will have to overcome a few glitches or stuck parts here and there, but it was nothing the careful use of a hammer and wood block couldn’t overcome. Most importantly, the new seal is accomplished by a well-greased inner fit riding on two surfaces, and a tight outer fit that now includes a tacky adhesive to assure water doesn’t get by. I feel it’ll last much longer than the original setup. The washer works and sounds like new. I am very pleased with the quality and fit of the parts. I was thrilled that the tool was included! It sets the bearings perfectly. A great price on a great kit that was shipped quickly. Short of them coming to install it for me, that’s as good as it gets. Review: Installed on Maytag Bravos XL (MVWB880BW0) - I figured I'd share some comments, but note this is only 2 days after install, so can't speak for longevity of the parts, etc. yet. I was replacing the bearings due to a bad lower bearing (grease started showing on floor below) - The washer has been loud for maybe 6 months to a year possibly longer. It was hard to remember how quiet it once was, but after replacing with this kit, we barely notice it running. Prior to replacement, sounded like a plane taking off when it would spin at high speeds. If you have this issue, I would highly recommend getting the bearings (complete kit) swapped out prior to having these break down and having grease either on your floor or whatever is in your washer at the time. The toughest, longest part to replacing these were... 1. Getting the bottom bolt off (wish I watched a better youtube first to know you can put a screwdriver through to hold in place while using allen wrench). 2. Getting the rod out - took a lot of force, more than I would have expected. Same issue when trying to seat the new one back in. Using a long wooden board vs. small "protector" wooden board made it much easier. Being able to hit the board outside of the tub when seating the new one, you can get a lot more force on it. 3. Cleaning everything off - grease etc. This took awhile, used vinegar on tub to get out hard H20 build up. Also - cleaned out filter, which had never been cleaned, and wish I knew existed (LOTS of build up there and very easy to clean). Not a "quick" project, but would take half the time now that I've done it once, and 2 days in, my wife is very happy with an extremely clean, quiet and functional washer. Hope the parts are built to last. If issues arise sooner than later, will update the post. ### ⭐ Product is ok but bearing press kit was faulty *by A***R on December 10, 2024* I have bought this product twice now, 1st time around, it lasted for about 2 years so I recently bought it again. I am hoping it can last another 2 years. However, the reason, this time around I am giving it 1 star is due to following 2 reasons: 1. The bearing press tool was not sized correctly. Both bottom and top sides got stuck on to both, bottom and top bearings. The bottom one was comparatively easy to take off the bearing (with a hammer 🔨). The top bearing was stuck in the tool so bad that I had to knock out the bearing and had to use a bearing puller to get it unstuck. I was not a happy camper as the pressing kit supposed to make your life easy but I ended up wasting time and effort to get the bearing unstuck without damaging it. It almost took me twice as long to get the replacement job done. NOT COOL! I would recommend the seller to have some quality checks in place for the bearing press tool to avoid this kind of bad customer experience! Lucky for me, once I removed the stuck bearing, I was able to use the press kit from last time to put it all together. 2. Secondly, there was some squeaky noise that I don't recall hearing the last time after installation. I saw other comments about it being louder than expected, I have noticed the same. We will see how long it lasts and if the noise gets worse. If you planning on buying this, I would highly recommend placing the bearing press tool on both bearings to make sure it is a lose fit and can easily come off the bearings!!! Hope this is helpful.
