I liked the large size and that I could read it easily from inside my home--from a distance of 30 feet or so. I used it in the first location for 4 or 5 years, and then moved it to a second location for another period of at least 5 years or more. I'm not sure of the exact age of my original unit but I know I had it for at least 10 years. For the first few years I took it down during winter, but after I changed locations I left it out year-round. The only thing that changed over the years was the little orange float inside the gauge gradually faded from the original bright orange to a much lighter color. The gauge tube, holder and cup on top remained perfect, and the markings remained easily readable. In September 2023 we had a severe hail storm with some really large hail and high wind. The large green collection cup on top of the tube got knocked off by hail and the wind blew it completely away--couldn't find it anywhere. I immediately set out to find a duplicate rain gauge, and this one is identical to my first one in every respect. I don't know if this one will last another 10+ years, but if it does it may outlast me. This has been an excellent item and unusually durable; I can certainly recommend it.
