I hung mine free in front of my house (not against a wall) and they worked great once I removed the wood posts from the bottom. I used the sticky things that come with it to hold the posts in the top pocket.Dinging a star because the stitching was crappy - I had to fix it to keep the posts in. Our trick or treaters thought they were a hoot. We used doublesided outdoor tape and they clung to each side of our door that is surrounded by brick. I worried that it wouldnt hold but they held all season. We used gorilla outdoor doublestick tape as we did not want to do anything to the brick.
