I bought this charger specifically because it was advertised as a 500 mA charger, as opposed to the wide variety of 360 mA chargers listed on Amazon. However, this is *not* a 500 mA charger. It is a 360 mA charger, and I can prove it with math and electrical engineering:When replacing a charger, the voltage (measured in volts, V) of the new charger must match that of the original (because that's the voltage the device expects), and the maximum output current (measured in milliamps, mA) of the new charger must meet or exceed whatever the device draws. If you don't have any specifications for the device, it's safe to replace the charger only with one with an equal or larger current rating, working from the assumption that the old charger delivered sufficient current for the device.Also, current (I) (in milliamps), voltage (V) (in volts), and power (P) (in watts) are related by the equation P = V * I / 1000. If you know any two, you can determine the remaining one.The charger I received is labeled entirely in Chinese, but it has a voltage on it (15 V) and two power ratings (7.5 W and 5.4 W). Because of inefficiencies in the charger losing energy to heat, the output power is always going to be less than the input power, so I surmised that the output power was the lower rating, 5.4 W. Google Translate confirms that it is labeled as such (see attached screenshot).So if the device is rated to output a maximum of 5.4 W at 15 V, the maximum current is then: 5.4 / 15 * 1000 = 360 mA!So this charger is actually no different than the many other 360 mA chargers available, and in particular cannot safely replace a Phillips 8000X charger that delivers 420 mA, unless you know that you are charging a device that draws 360 mA or less.I think the seller's 500 mA figure comes from using the *input* power of 7.5 W instead of the *output* power when calculating the maximum current that the charger can provide.The charger *did* seem to charge my razor fine when I tried it; perhaps the razor actually does need only 360 mA, and the original charger had a higher capacity than necessary. Or perhaps when I charge my razor I'm drawing more current than the device is rated for, and it will eventually catch fire or blow a fuse! Who can say?
