The app blows.It barely has options and can’t switch from hot to cold. It does allow for temperature adjustment. You can’t remove a thermostat from the app with out calling them. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ A feature filled remote thermostat at a low price. . *by G***R on Reviewed in the United States on October 22, 2019* I have only great things to say about this thermostat. It has “away” setting, which can be set from the wall or via your smart phone. (I have an iPhone). I set the thermostat to an “away” setting to save money, and then “undo” the away setting with my iPhone before returning home. Very effective and cost saving. Temperature settings can also be adjusted using my iPhone, or from the wall. Repeating heating and cooling schedules may also be set by day of the week and four time periods each day, again, remotely by iPhone or via the home device. I have never called Technical Support because the devices always work perfectly. The only exception is when my Wi-Fi “goes down“. When the Wi-Fi is re-established , the thermostat goes back online automatically.I am not affiliated with this company. Just to satisfied user. ### ⭐⭐ The not-so-smart thermostat with imaginary "Auto" Mode. *by M***Y on Reviewed in the United States on December 12, 2019* Pros:o The cheapest "Internet connected" (not "Smart") thermostat for under $100.o Allows you to remotely check on the temperature in your home using your phone and turn the unit on/off if desired.o Can be powered using a USB cable (via wall outlet) if your home does not have a "C-Wire" (older homes/apartments.)o Reasonably easy to install yourself if you're not afraid of attempting such things.o Phone app lets you set different temperature ranges for different times of day, and "Schedules" (untested.)Cons:o There are four "Modes" - Heat, Cool, Auto & Off. "Auto" is the same as "Cool". It DOES NOT auto switch between Heat & Cool like you'd expect while in this mode.o Can't manually raise or lower the temperature more than one degree without inadvertently disabling the unit.o Confusing settings that don't work as you'd expect.o Phone app is useless beyond being able to check the indoor temperature without getting up (app has an "Away" feature to help you save money, but I can't confirm if it actually works.)o Android version of app requires at least v7.0 of the OS.o Not compatible with Alexia or Google Home smart speakers.I've had my Geo for slightly over a year now, so I feel comfortable enough to write a knowledgeable review. I had it replaced after only a few months because I thought it was "broken". It wasn't. The replacement unit has the same problems due to tragically bad software/firmware.If installing yourself, first be sure to take plenty of photos of your original thermostat's wiring because you will likely need them and refer to them often (your wire colors may not match the assumed colors on your Geo so you must go by name/label.) Don't install ANY new thermostat on a day you need the A/C or Heat. I made the mistake of trying to install this in the middle of Summer because of claims it could be done "in 10 minutes". I ran into trouble and had to reinstall my old thermostat just long enough to cool the house back down before reattempting the next day (thank goodness for the photos I took.)Instructions are a 5 page pamphlet that mostly only covers "installation", and a mere 1-1/2 pages on "Settings". The settings may "seem" obvious, but they don't work as expected (if at all.) Getting the unit to detect my WiFi (a mere 30 feet away direct Line of Sight) took several tries. I don't know why."Max Heat" is the temperature at which the heat turns Off, but the heat does not turn on until the temperature falls below the "Min" Heat setting (and inversely for Cool.) BUT the "Stage" settings affect that range, so if the temp is "within" the "swing" settings, the unit will turn on/off. This can create a very large uncomfortable range before you finally figure out the proper settings. And as noted in the "Cons" above, attempting to make changes can easily disable the unit, so finding just the right settings took me months. I STILL don't know if the two Swing settings combine to prevent my heat from turning on/off until the indoor temp falls below 71.5' despite my 73' Min Heat setting (and then run to 75.5'.) Who knows? Not their tech support.I had my thermostat in "Auto" mode all Summer and as long as I left it alone, it worked fine, but when December rolled around, the heat never came on until I manually switched to "Heat Mode". When I contacted Tech support (typically quick replies via email), I was told there is a "Dead Zone" of 2.5' between Heat & Cool Modes as a "safety precaution" (so your home doesn't quickly/repeatedly oscillate between Heat & Cool modes.) My Heat/Cool setting had a 2' gap. After days of exchanging emails with Lux tech support, I was told that raising my "Min Cool" setting 1 degree (creating a 3' gap between Heat & Cold) would resolve my issue "in this circumstance", but when I set my "Max Heat" & "Min Cool" settings a full *4* degrees apart, I was once again told that wouldn't fix the problem. "Doesn't matter", I was told. "The Stage settings have no effect on the "Dead Zone" gap (so what's the point?) Outdoor temperatures rapidly fluctuating between & your "Min Cold"/"Max Heat" settings over & over are pretty much zero, and a *Smart* thermostat should be able to detect if the two ranges are too close together and forbid such a setting anyway. So the Geo is designed to stop something that never happens preventing you from doing something that *does* happen at least twice a year (switch between Cool & Heat.)I've learned that once the unit is working, LEAVE IT ALONE. It's ability to function is as fragile as a house of cards. If I find the house too warm or too cold and try adjusting the Heat/Cold limits, the unit will "forget" to turn back on. I owned my Geo for 8 months before I stumbled upon a "fix": unplug the USB power for a few seconds then plug it back in and it will reset itself. I spent two or three sweltering weekends in the Texas heat with no a/c before I discovered this handy trick. Lord help those people using a "C-wire" for power who can't just unplug it when needed.So if you want A/C, you must manually put the Geo in "Cool" Mode. If you want heat, you must manually put the Geo in "Heat" Mode like any other "dumb" thermostat. "Auto" mode is pure fiction. I've tried leaving it in "Auto" mode to see if it ever switches between the two and it never did. Manually setting "Heat" Mode, the heat came on right away because my apartment was below the desire temperature. Even the temperature at which the A/C switches itself on while in "Auto" mode is higher than simply setting it to "Cool".If you want to temporarily crank the heat a few degrees before jumping in the shower from your phone, forget about it. No can do. The temp limit Settings on the unit itself will forbid that. Ditto for a quick cooldown after a Summer jog. And trying to do it from the unit itself is certain to disable it (forcing me to use my Plug/Unplug USB power trick.)The fact the unit is sub-$100 and has a FEW "Pros" is the only reason it gets 2 stars instead of one. Hopefully they'll update the unit's firmware and the app software in the near future.
