I purchased the book because of the title, “Owls of the World, A Photographic Guide”. While it does do exactly that and does it well, I misunderstood it to mean, “A Photographer’s Guide.”The book has very good photography of the owls and it must have been quite a challenge to source those photos, kudos to the author. My complaint is the organization of the book. If one is not an owl expert they have to be willing to scroll through the entire book trying to visually spot the owl they seek. As someone new to owls and trying to learn about which owls could be found in any particular area or region, I was hoping to be able to not only scan through the photos but also be able to look through a listing, an index or chart that would aid in locating owls whose name you did not know.I took off one start because am surprised and disappointed that knowing there was so much data to share, that would be unfamiliar to many (Taxonomy, Species and subspecies) there wasn’t at minimum a secondary or even tertiary way to help wade through such voluminous data such as search by region or climate. Of course, this may not be an easy task but given the fact that the book does list things like habitat, geographical variation and status & distribution, it would seem that a chart or list could be included that would aid in the location or narrowing of locations.ConclusionOverall, a very good book on owls with photos and information that help to identify popular and lesser known owls but it does so only a linear fashion. Should you NOT know what you are looking for, I do not see how you can easily find what you seek in a non-linear fashion or method. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great quality. Well written.
