The weight allows for more control. I hit a metal to 18yrs old as well as 8yrs. With that said if your don't have the confidence their ready to take infield off the bat don't be afraid to just do rolling drills. From player to player or coach to player. **Q: Can I buy it in a different color** A: This is the only color we currently have. **Q: Can this be good for softball?** A: From what I have observed, I do not see fungo bats used by fastpitch softball coaches very often. I have heard that the function is not as applicable for fastpitch softball as it is for baseball.
