(This model uses USA made toxin free, eco friendly varnishes and paint - giving protection to both inner tube and surface. Our new coating formula also give this model greater resistance against elements.) *Newest design to ensure the best playing experience - a redesigned last fingerhole (finger holes for the right small finger). Traditaionally, Shinobue fingerholes sits on a striaght line (as are many traditional bamboo flutes around the world). This setting, however, poses an inconvenience for players to cover the last fingerholes perfectly since anatomically speaking, our small finer is usually quite a bit shorter than the index,middle and ring finer. We have noticed and discussed this issue a few years back but decided not to change the design out of a desire to retain the Shinobue as in its most original form. Nonetheless we have received quite a number of feedbacks from our customers, many of them professional flutists, suggesting an alteration to the last fingerhole to improve playing experience, so we decided to try out a new setting. And a big thank you again to our customers, whose opinions and feedback we valued enormously. It came exactly as advertised, is crafted well, doesn't smell badly and for what it is advertised as, fits the bill. It came with a cloth bag for the flute, in a box, wrapped snugly in protective wrapping. It also came with a finger chart, cute charm and a message about the business and what they're about - which was a nice gesture and shows the seller's customer focus.As someone who can't produce a darn sound out of the shakuhachi, I found the shinobue to be easy to get a fairly decent sound after looking up tutorials on flute playing online. The sound could be better, but of course this is a beginner flute and super cheap so better sound isn't to be expected anyway! The shape of the bamboo is consistent and the natural varnish(?) used smells quite pleasant. There was no damage/defects/cracks in the bamboo on arrival.Overall, I really like this product! ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Ninth hole? *by K***A on September 20, 2015* I am a beginner and I believe it plays well, very easy to catch.
