## Overview

The Pineapple Guava (Feijoa sellowiana) is a cold-hardy live plant that stands 8-12 inches tall, perfect for outdoor gardens in USDA Zones 8-10. This GMO-free plant thrives in sandy, well-drained soils and requires regular watering. With its stunning blooms in winter and delicious edible fruit in summer, it’s a must-have for any garden enthusiast looking to add a touch of the exotic.

## Description

Feijoa sellowiana is commonly known as pineapple guava or Guavasteen is an evergreen perennial shrub or small tree that typically matures to 10-15’ tall. It is cultivated as an ornamental for appreciation of its evergreen foliage, flowers and fruit and/or as a fruiting tree/shrub for harvest of its edible fruit. It's grown in the U.S. from Florida to Texas and California, but fruiting can sometimes be unreliable in these areas. Although fruits are often commercially sold where they are grown, they are rarely exported to other locations because they bruise easily. Cultivation: Winter hardy to USDA Zones 8-10. Will generally survive temperatures to 18 degrees F with out damage. Best in full sun. Tolerates part shade. Needs regular and consistent moisture to produce best fruits. Easily grown in average, well-drained soils. Best where winters are cool and summers moderate (80-90 degrees F). Summer heat stress may cause premature fruit drop. Can be pruned to form an interesting hedge. This is a good low-maintenance shrub for hot dry problem areas. For best fruit production, deeply water on a regular basis. Mulch soil around the shrubs to protect the shallow roots. Shipped BARE ROOT and are 8-12"+ INCHES Tall.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: How long this pineapple guava tree will give fruit**
A: I don't know, but contact Edible Landscapes in Va. They carry that plant in their catalogue

**Q: Will this grow in 7b?**
A: Yes very much alive. I have my plants in a hot house for now but will plant outside this spring.

**Q: how long before it will bare fruit?**
A: Three to four years. Zone 9 staid green all winter.

**Q: Is this palnt from a seed or is it a mature plant from grafts or cuttings?**
A: I purchased these about a year ago and they're certainly not seedlings. Additionally, they are absolutely Not and I do mean Not mature plants. Of the 3 that I purchased only one has survived and I am very familiar with this plant and growing them. If I could find a nursery that is local that carries particular variety I would purchase them there, but there are very few options. ## Customer Reviews

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Live healthy plant
*by L***O on April 25, 2022*

My pineapple-guava arrived and I am so pleased. It is as described. It was about 18 inches tall and very healthy. Leaves were in great shape and no sign of disease or insects. I planted it in a pot for now.I used potting soil and cow manure when potted. Am watering it well but nor overwatering. It enjoys the full sun which it is now in and has grown another 4 inches!. I know they are generally slow growing but it sure is a happy plant! Years ago I had one and it had the most beautiful blooms. When this one gets big enough I look forward to the blooms and fruit. The seller provided me with a healthy plant and I am very satisfied! Thank you!

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Beautiful and healthy I'm so excited
*by R***E on December 14, 2022*

Just planted it maybe 15 minutes ago it came out of the box looking just like this. So hopefully he's busy growing little Roots right now as I speak. Thank you so much for such a quality product. No accounting for the Post Office these days some folks few as they were their plants may have sat in the PO box too long because this one was superb

### ⭐ Would not recommend ordering
*by T***P on May 25, 2024*

I ordered 2 plants expecting them to come as they are shown in the photos advertised. I was sadly disappointed to open the small box the plants were crammed in with bent stems to see one had significantly less mass than the other. Half of one looked disease and dead. The plants in general had signs of nutrient deficiency. When I noticed the roots I realized why. The root ball was a solid block like they had been root bound for a long time. The pots in the ad image are round and the roots received were a much smaller dense square. It looks like they shaved off the outer roots to prevent people from saying they were root bound in the pot. I asked for one replacement plant to be delivered so I would get what I paid for. They refused quoting the literature in the ad saying if any part of the plant is 1-2’ tall they have meet the requirements for the order regardless of the mass difference between the two plants received or that one was half dead. The plants have been in pots for a day and are already showing further signs of decline which is to be expected with such little root mass on each and the density leaving little room for gas exchange. These are sad plants that could have been grown and delivered with much better care than this nursery cares to admit. If you have a choice to order from somewhere else I would go with any other option or you’ll likely be wasting your money ordering here as I have.
