We have not tried it in mud but I would doubt it has the power.Despite other reviews it does have a reverse.One charge gives you about 20 minutes play time by which time he has usually had enough. He absolutely loves it!! It is faster than the typical target RC cars you can buy but not as quick as a hobby car. It pretty much runs over anything we have thrown at it on our obstacle course. The throttle is not speed sensitive like the hobby cars and neither is the steering. Its very nicely built and runs for about 20 mins on a full charge. All in all, for the right aged kid, it's more fun than typical purchases as long as you don't compare it to a hobby car. The price is very reasonable as well and the only thing I wish was different is that the battery pack consists of AA batteries packaged together with a proprietary connector so you cant just change batteries when done.
