My son always wants to be around when I'm doing this. So we thought, "might as well teach him to be safe". He has another pair of active noise cancelling headphones, but prefers these (probably because of the planes, etc. oh, and the fact that we actually purchased them for his little brother). In a pinch, I've used them and they work well, even for my adult-sized head. These have been in the garage, in the yard (when trimming trees) and in the car (when he can't stand to listen to his brother). These are also great for kids who seem to be sensitive to sounds. They are very comfortable to wear. The only negative we have found with them is that they are difficult to wear with safety glasses. The safety glasses either do not sit correctly on the face of the wearer, or the stems are pushed into the sides of the head so hard that they're unbearable to wear.
