I put it on the proper area of my waist and it folded, and folded uncomfortably. It was like having a rope wrapped around the mid part of the belt that was digging in.Because of this fatal flaw, the overlapping snap closure doesn't lay flat to my back, even though it's elasticized. The snaps on the back stand out uncomfortably (it needs a different closure entirely due to the unflattering bulk), and a middle snap dug into my lower back while the edges flipped outward.It may work if you are making a pirate costume and want the "look" without purchasing true leather. Very comfortable. I was concerned about the sizing so I had ordered the next size up to make sure it wouldn't be to tight. I don't believe it was necessary. There was enough give in the elastic that if I had ordered one size smaller, it would have been fine. I did replace the laces with a brighter colored ribbon just to make it match up with the rest of my costume and it worked wonderfully. Very happy with the purchase.
