First off, the knife comes sharpened with a very, very, very sharp microbevel (microbevels are and industry standard for production knives as Scandi grinds or full flat grinds are too difficult to QA/QC on large scale productions, Bark River might be the exception). Moving on, I had a couple of these knives about 10-12 years ago during a previous production run and loved them. I lost one and gave the other to my wife (she still uses it as her edc). You can sometimes find originals on eBay, but they are never cheep. This new run is slightly different than the original, and I think it is just as good, if not better. The knife itself is a little thinner and the coating is a little darker than the original. The thickness provides more comfortable pocketability, while the color is purely aesthetic. CRKT doesn’t normally use high end/exotic steel with their knives, and this knife is no exception. It is stainless steel with reasonable hardness 50-52 (which is actually kinda soft/elastic compared to blades), but that is what you want with an everyday working knife. Elmax or CPM3V with HR ratings of 57-59 are great for fixed blades or expensive folders, but how many people would buy this knife if it were priced at 5x the current price and was a pain to sharpen. It looks incredible, very distinct from your average pocket knife. But when I started to cycle it open a few times, it seemed awkward and a little difficult. My initial impression was a little underwhelming.A few days in and I have to say that I absolutely love this knife. It takes a day or so to get fluid with opening and closing it and I find myself playing around with it similar to what I would do with a butterfly knife. It’s a really fun knife to have with you.As to the quality, it’s a great knife. Well made, great blade, absolutely nothing to complain about.
