Review: Love The Illustrations - Not only is the story a good one, but Shirley Hughes' wonderful drawings are the star. My preschool granddaughters picked up on the wonderfu thing she does in her heavily people-populated pages - she places important characters in the background so that you can trace their movements to the climax of the story. You might not realize it the first time through - I didn't - but my five year old granddaughter did. "She's on another page," and so she was. there's a whole bunch to look at and though the book is a classic, it looks really fresh.

Not only is the story a good one, but Shirley Hughes' wonderful drawings are the star. My preschool granddaughters picked up on the wonderfu thing she does in her heavily people-populated pages - she places important characters in the background so that you can trace their movements to the climax of the story. You might not realize it the first time through - I didn't - but my five year old granddaughter did. "She's on another page," and so she was. there's a whole bunch to look at and though the book is a classic, it looks really fresh.

Dogger is a sweet tale about a little boys's love and attachment to a beloved stuffed dog. He loses Dogger then finds him in an unusual setting. It looks like he'll lose Dogger again but his big sister saves the day. It truly is a lovely story about a young boys's affection towards a stuffed animal and his sister who sacrifices something of her own to help her brother. My children loved this story when they were young. It's the perfect gift for 4-6 year olds.
