You can always use the web as a reference, and there are many useful websites, but when I am working on my lessons, I don't want to go over to the computer or futz with my smartphone. Next thing you know, I'll be surfing the internet and ignoring my lessons.Being a "college" edition, this dictionary is a good compromise between a lightweight casual dictionary and an exhaustive (and expensive) unabridged dictionary. After using it for several weeks, I find it to be just right, and just what I wanted.Although the Amazon product page mentions the first edition (2005), I ordered this dictionary in late 2014 and received the second edition (2009). I noticed another popular dictionary on Amazon, The New World Spanish/English, English/Spanish Dictionary (which I also bought), is listed as the 1996 edition, which is what I received. The Larousse, being 13 years newer, might be more up-to-date with idioms and other cultural details. As a hardcover edition that's sturdy enough to last a long time, the Larousse is also a very good value.I think the Larousse dictionary is very easy to read, with a nice typographic style and high-contrast printing, plus it's easy to flip through the pages, with good quality paper and a good binding. Nouns and adjectives clearly indicate all available genders for the word. Verb definitions are listed under the infinitive form, but the conjugated versions of the verb are also present and refer you to the infinitive entry. Many verbs have a number (in brackets) that refers you to a useful verb conjugation chart in the back, which shows any irregular forms of the verb. The dictionary has other useful features, too.FYI, the dictionary also translates curse words, if you need to build up that part of your vocabulary.Overall, I am pleased with the Larousse dictionary, and consider it to be a worthy reference that will get frequent use. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ My Favorite Dictionary *by H***' on Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on October 11, 2016* I love this dictionary. I like that it includes phrases, and says what Spanish speaking country the words or phrases are most commonly used. I had one that I have used since 2009, the cover is falling off and I am still loving it. And I have just bought another so I can have one upstairs, and one downstairs. The new one is smaller than the old one, so a little more transportable, it is kind of a heavy book. The new one has the English first and the Spanish second, but I like the older one better as it is reversed of this and I look up more Spanish words than English so I have to remember to look in the back with the new dictionary. But never the less, it is a valuable tool and can be very entertaining! ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Larousse has done a pretty good job here *by M***E on Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on January 4, 2015* Dictionary compilers realise that they can never hope to attain perfection. The OED's compilers came close to it, but then their Herculean labours ran to 20 volumes ... so let's get realistic. Larousse has done a pretty good job here. Their dictionary knocks spots off a number of competing works. It would be churlish of me to report on the handful of words or expressions I failed to find in these pages, because the volume of useful, up-to-date vocabulary is praiseworthy. And the presentation, an important factor, has been very much designed with the user in mind.
