I use them in winter sure enough, however, I also use them in Spring and Summer to deter deer and rabbits from my new landscape shrubs and flowers including my hostas, Peony bushes, and new hydrangeas. These come in different sizes and with stakes included but I don't always use the stakes unless it's windy. I cover the plants that the deer prefer to eat in spring and summer with these little tents every evening. The first winter (with no cover on it) most of the leaves turned brown with wind/cold burn and growth was clearly stunted. This winter, we bought this product and kept it on the shrub from October through March. I took it off a few days ago and was ecstatic to see it worked perfectly! The leaves are healthy and green, no loss of growth, and I can see it is already growing with the warming Spring weather. And we had a much colder winter, with about a foot of snow on the ground for the entire month of February. As can be seen in the pictures, this is a very generous sized cover (we bought the largest version I think) and will last at least another season or two of growth.
