That left me with a size 3, 4 and 5.The goldendoodle is a medical alert service animal in training and goes most everywhere with me. This means he is frequently taking quick trips across hot parking lots, longer if we need to find a potty spot.The heeler x collie needs a lot more physical exercise to keep him from being bored or restless. He goes on 30 to 45 minute walks almost every day. Some of the road is paved, some of it is gravel but when you can feel the heat through your own shoes, imagine what it's doing to a dog's paw?The last reason I got these shoes is because I live in a very cold climate during winter. It's so bad dogs are known to limp and get frostbite from the pain of being out in -20 F snow. These shoes happen to be summer, winter and water approved so that covers us year round. My older dog has a couple shoes too large for her and a pair of socks. In winter, just the socks do her fine but she doesn't go far due to her age and has the sense to come inside before her feet are torn to shreds.Little tip for how to get your dogs use to the shoes. I gave them their favorite high value chew, a bully braid for the heeler x collie and a cow ear for the doodle, obviously separately or none of this would habe been possible. While they enjoyed their treat, I gently put the shoes on one paw at a time, praising them for being so good. The doodle gave me some trouble but not until the last boot. I tried playing fetch but neither pups were interested with something on their feet. So instead I did some kibble treated training. Basic commands they know and love, some involving minimal movement and some involving running across the room. By the end of the short training session, the heeler wore those boots like a pro and the doodle was tolerating his. For removal, I simply got them to come, treat, paw, yes, remove shoe, treat and praise. I measured exactly like the directions explained and ordered a size XL. I wish I'd ordered a L though, because when he runs in them, they all end up flipping around and that is the reason we needed them. There are a bunch of burs behind our house and he loves to run there and play fetch. We pull the velcro as tight as possible, but it still isn't enough to hold them tight. So while they do still protect his feet from the burs, he obviously doesn't like to run when they get turned around and it's uncomfortable for him. We end up having to switch them around everytime we throw the ball. Our dogs have never wore anything on their feet, so I needed to work them in slowly. Both of dogs responded to treats and praises, so of course we are going over board on both. Our 7 yr old is a red nose pit and is 80 lbs and I ordered a size 8. The shoe has fits good. Our other dog is a 5 yr old American Bulldog and he is around 85 lbs, he also is wearing a size 8. You will need to learn how to use the velcro straps to make them snug around there legs it’s easy, but important for a good fit.Definitely would recommend these shoes. If your dog has never wore shoes before, please take your time and work with them. I have been putting them on 2-3 times a day to help them get use to them.
