It just sits on the surface, so if you have to wipe up a lot, you're just smearing it all around. These really seem to absorb well, better than any others we've used. It's really soft, and the size is actually quite generous. I thought I wouldn't like the shape of it, as I was looking for large squares, but this ended up being perfect. They are also larger than others I have received, they actually are large enough to stay on my shoulder and cover my shirt enough so I don't get stuff on my shirt. Bought these for my third child even though I still had some from my first two kids. They kinda bunch up in the wash, but you can straighten them back out easily enough so it's not a big deal.
