I'm not sure what you are hunting. I don't know that this knife is long enough to field dress a deer, depending on its size, but it should be more than adequate for anything smaller. **Q: Does this sheath have a belt loop** A: The sheath which came with it has a belt loop. **Q: Has anyone tried carving with this? Not necessarily fine woodwork, but perhaps a kuksa in the field? Something finer than pegs/stakes for your tarp.** A: This is a blade better suited for hunting as it has a large belly and short blade. Works great for field dressing and skinning.
