The only recommendation I would provide is that the manufacture maybe provide an angle or ratio to each side of the guide. ### ⭐⭐⭐ Good idea but needs just a bit more work to be great *by P***Y on January 16, 2019* I am new to hand cutting dovetails. I figured I needed a guide to have any luck. I looked at those on the market and picked this one to try. It allows you to cut both tails and pins. Mine is for 1:8 ratio. The unit is metal with a rubber coating to make it hold in place easier. A magnet inside holds the blade in place. My only issue is that to cut some edges, you need to hold the unit to the right of the blade. For a right handed person, this is rather awkward. Not only that but in those cases, the magnet is positioned in such a way as to not be very attractive till you get part way into the cut. By then you could be heading in the wrong direction. I think the ideal guide would allow you to cut tails and pins from the same side of the board with the guide on either the right of the left of the blade (got to look out for the lefties!) with the magnet in close proximity. I suspect the only way to do this would be with two guides. One for tails and one for pins. That might increase the cost of the unit, but it would be much better. With that said, I ended up making a simple jig out of wood with the right angle for the cases where I needed to hold this jig to the right. I just had to take more time to insure the blade stayed in contact with my wood jig. So all in all, it was a decent device to help me get started cutting dovetails.
