Three sharpening holes, which accommodate multiple pencil diameters and styles. I have some colored pencils which are quite thick (the Derwent being the most notable) and which do not fit a standard sharpener whole. i hate having to buy multiple sharpeners, so it was very nice that this one can accommodate both diameters. Two sharpening styles for standard diameter pencils. With some colored pencils, I like the core to be long and thin -- those are usually the ones that are oil-based (i.e., a harder core). For others like the really soft cored colored pencils (think Prismacolor), I prefer to expose less of the core. This sharpener can handle both. Sharpens to a very point tip! Holds a fair amount of shavings before emptying, which I appreciate, especially when coloring on the sofa!
