It has a "horn" of sorts that embodies the lock mechanisms both over and under the tape in that part of the casing. This has inch on the top side and metric on the back side. On either side of the tape, the upper and the lower of the tape are marked with the same scales. Many inch/metric tapes will have both on each side of the tape. If you marked 9/16" on the lower, you'll be trying to mark 14.287mm on the upper. To put it another way, it will help you to observe that your tape is square with a line or an edge if you can verify that it intersects the same mark on both upper and lower part of the tape. The magnets on the hook aren't very strong and seem a little gimmicky unless you need to measure metal stud walls or some other type of framing. The hook is large and could end up being caught on this or that but a two sided hook is required for a two sided tape. I live in US, but I'm going to be using this to measure in mm for welding and carpentry. It's just so much easier and more accurate.I write reviews just to get your "Helpful" votes.
