I caught 75 pound blue fin tuna on this reel and I was curious to see how much line they ran off when I hooked the fish. I set the dragbat 20 pounds using a fish scale to set the drag. The average blue fin in the 50 to 75 pound range ran off 120 feet of line. When you hook up with a 20-30 lb catfish you will be fighting for a while. Good comfortable handle. You need something to hold on too. Good braided line also. Reels feel quality. Line counters arent 100% accurate all the time and are off by up to a foot when calibrating. Spool is only 3/4 of the way full, even with braid, when calibrated. A full spool would be nice. Screws on the line counter housing were not all the way tightened down, i own 6 of the ls40r models, making the line counter jump and stop counting at 99’. Took them all apart and put some grease on the line counter main gears and worm gears and put back together. All the other gears appeared to be greased properly. I Pulled line out again and it was rolling over to 100’. The 100’ reel does not display in the window all the way, kinda annoying... Should work good now though.
