It just plugs in, turns on all the lights, runs computer, and charges the battery. All without getting as hot as 35 watt adapter. It could be used as an adapter for the computer alone. That is to be expected because it is rated at 90 watts. It is not as pictured as mine had a 3 prong plug. I don't have the equipment to test the purity of the DC but it has an 18.6 vdc output. However, I use a s back up, so it does not get 24 hour / 365 day use. More like half that much useage.
