Though there's no child safety hinges on the top, it's very lightweight and small. I doubt he can get himself inside it, so not a safety concern either for him or his fingers. The little cubby makes a fun place for Grammy and Gramps to hide little gifts for him to find when he comes over. You couldn't really store anything large in this anyway. To top it all off, it is ~incredibly~ cute, and is a bright little addition to my room.This sheep was initially an impulse buy, but I don't regret a cent of it.Oh, a word of advice - don't be me, and forget there are washers to place between the leg and body during assembly. I had to unscrew 3/4 legs and start all over because I didn't pay enough attention when pulling out the pieces.
