I thought I had read a review that said this mat doesn’t shed. Well, it does. I have another mat nearby, and there are fibers all over it. I bought this for a party when we were expecting rain and wanted to make sure our guests had a place to wipe their feet. It held up nicely and did its job with over 70 guests. It looks simple and elegant. It definitely sheds as most of these types of mats do, but I did not notice any pieces coming into the house. I've only had it for a little while so don't know if the shedding will stop, but the shedding does not bother me. I would also note that this does not have a comfortable feel on bare feet, so if this is for a mudroom where people will be barefoot or changing into shoes often, I may try something different.
