A: These knives are qualitative and recommended to use them in the kitchen and in connection with the question YES, they are safe in the dishwasher.

A: They are absolutely hollow. That said, it's a great set if you don't abuse them, especially if you catch on a sale. FYI: They don't seem to hold a sharp edge and must be sharpened often.
