Replacing the assembly is your best bet. For some reassurance, you can judge the condition of the tensioner yourself. A tensioner will usually have a groove on the arm where it meets the spring housing which determines the arm's range of movement. With the tensioner and belt installed, note the position of the tensioner relative to the block. When removing the belt, notice the position of the arm when fully open and when fully released.
