We purchased the 14” model and it’s a perfect fit, our boy is currently about 40” tall and he rides this on the lowest setting. He went straight from a three wheel trike with the pedals at the front to this and was pedaling on his own within minutes. We did lube everything up after assembly and feel it rides very smoothly. We did get this on sale and while I feel that the normal price is probably worth it, I’m glad I didn’t have to pay that! I do like that it doesn’t look like a little kid’s bike or have characters on it, I think that makes it more versatile and something less likely that he’d lose interest in. I believe that many are written by individuals expecting the bike to arrive ready to ride. This is not the case. You should avoid making this purchase if you are not mechanically inclined. With that said, assembly is not difficult. This will include adjusting the hand brakes. These are the items usually already done for you when purchasing from a bike shop. A lot of reviews mention issues with the crank bearings failing. I believe this is caused either by they way the bike is shipped or by kids dropping the bike on its side too frequently after removing the training wheels. That is because the crank housing is plastic. It’s the only thing that is lacking of typical Schwinn quality. When the bike arrived at my house, it was clearly marked not to place the package on its side. The delivery person did so anyway. Before I even pulled it out of the box, I checked to make sure it was not damaged and that there were no missing parts. Good to go! This is a very nice kid’s bike and my son loves it. The bike is fairly lite for having a steel frame. If your kids requires an 18 inch model or smaller, I would recommend it. If you are looking for a 20 inch model, I would consider another model or brand, especially if your kid is an aggressive rider.
