Perfect Favors for a Train-Themed Party
I was a little hesitant to buy these after reading many of the other reviews, but decided to take the plunge. They were perfect for my son's train-themed birthday party. I love that they are wood, painted, and functional - you really can make them whistle. For less than a dollar per whistle, this was the best buy I found for train-themed favors. I wanted to honor my son's genuine love of trains and have a generic train party, rather than a character-focused (e.g. Thomas, Chuggington) party. These are the perfect favors for the general train theme. They arrived with four of each of three color combinations (red/green, blue/red, yellow/green) and each whistle was individually packaged in plastic (which I chose to remove before distributing them as party favors, but still appreciated that they were packaged that way).

Great for decoration, not so great as a whistle
Used as table decor for retirement party and looked great. Whistle is not very functional. Would not advise for purchase as whistle.

Work well, perfect for train themed party
These whistles met their purpose. They’re not loud and the kids loved them. If you’re looking for a whistle that sounds like an R class steam locomotive, this ain’t it. If you find it, you’ll be the most disliked parent in the group.

good party bag gift. not all whistles worked well though
cute and kids liked them but some did not work as well. may be able to drill out the back it looks like some of the plugs put in to make the whistle were put in crooked or not a big enough hole so doesn't make as much sound. otherwise good, made a good party bag gift

Beautiful return gift for my son’s birthday
It fulfilled my theme party on train while giving away the favor bags to kids

They DO work!
I almost didn't order these because so many reviewers said they didn't work. I got them anyway, and I'm so glad I did! They are really cute and were perfect for my son's train party. It is true that they are too hard for a 2 year-old to blow, but my son gets so excited when we blow it. The trick is to angle it down a bit when you blow into it.

Great value and very cute
Used these as party favors for my son's birthday party. Great value and very cute! I'm not sure about the others because the kids took them on their way home, but the 2 we kept sounded fine and had no problems. My 1 year old just slobbered on it but my 3 year old was able to make it whistle.

These are cheap to buy, quality is awful, but you can modify to make something decent.
The media could not be loaded. Let me start by saying it's nice to be able to buy something so cheap as a party favor. You get 12 trains for a reasonable price, but the sound quality is awful. I purchased them for my 3-year-old son's birthday party. I even bought two boxes thinking that I would be covered if one box was of poor quality. Both were the same for the most part. I told my wife these sounded awful. She said, "the kids will still like them". I'm sorry I love seeing kids light up and enjoy things. I couldn't give these to the kids as is. Now I knew they weren't going to sound like a larger train whistle, but most of these barely made a sound when blowing hard. Also, the sound many times was off between the two sides. I would rather have paid a little more to have a slightly better quality product. Now if you are like me and purchased these right before the party and now have a tough decision to make between returning them or give them as is since you don't didn't much else for party favors. I am here for you. If you have some tools, you can semi-quickly modify these and turn them into a decent whistle. Please see belowModification Guide1. Start by blowing in the whistle to get a feel for how awful the sound is. If the sound is OK but not great, you may only have to drill the two holes deeper and glue the included dowels back in place.2. Now take a small piece of 5/16" dowel and carefully punch out the two dowels that are cut and glued in place. Don't hit them too hard as they can go into the cut whistle slots and mess those up.3. Now use a tool to push them back out the other direction out of the whistle.4. Mark a 5/16" Bradley point drill bit with some tape so that you are drilling each hole about 1/4" deeper.5. Put the train in a vise and drill both sides. No drill press is needed as the existing hole is a decent guide for your drill bit.6. Tap the back of the train with a hammer to clear all the sawdust out and then put the dowels back in and test the sound. Make sure that the down is flush with the back opening of the hole (see my picture). This is the best position to maximize sound.7. If they sound good to your liking then apply a small drop of super glue down the hole (again see my pictures), then slide them down in place using a small flat head to position it as needed before the glue dries.8. Do the same for the other side.9. If it doesn't sound great, then you need to sand down the dowel more. Sand the dowel down to about 1/2 the size of the hold it goes into. Test the dowl and see if it sounds better. If not, you may have an issue with the whistle slots and that train may not be useable.Check out my video. I play modified trains and one train that was awful out of the box. This way you can get a feel for what they can sound like. Again, these aren't long or wide enough to make a great sound, but they are good for kids.I gave these two stars because to me they aren't great. Your kids may not notice, but I would rather have them enjoy something instead of getting frustrated.
