Initially, they worked well, although they alarmed loudly (obnoxiously) for about 30 seconds after being turned on. But after a few months, both units consistently tripped and were set off continually for no apparent reason. At that point, once turned on, they do not stop alarming at all. They are useless at that point. The batteries are standard AA and are easily replaceable, but if the unit will not stop alarming, there isn't anything that you can do.
