All the other "camping" utensils we've used are either plastic, all metal, or silicone lined plastic.The plastic compact utensils have not stood up to cooking over an open fire: i.e. plastic folding tongs melted on day 2 from contact with the hot pan.Metal heats up too quickly, burns your hands & is heavier.Unlike silicone lined utensils, this silicone does not melt at all. This has been an issue when cooking over a blazing fire with metal pans. The silicone lining started distorting after half a dozen uses & eventually melted to the point of creating sharp edges.These tongs snap apart to give you spoon options for stirring/mixing.
