They have a waxy feeling to them as well. The flicker effect is the same of an actual candle. You can use it stand alone or place it on a counter/table top, shelf, candle tray etc without the worry of spilled wax, fire hazard etc. The set comes with 3 different sizes of candles and one should make note of the size because they are on the smaller side, making them ideal for small space decoration (like a night stand, small side table or medium book shelf) and not for large, wide space areas, to enjoy their full effect. The batteries that came along with the set lasted for almost 3 days by then i noticed the brightness of the candles started to fade. I had the candles on for 4 to 6 hours a day. I then bought a new set of batteries, and tested them by keeping the candles on at all times, and i noticed the brightness started to fade by the 6th/7th day. Overall, was happy with this set, i bought another one. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Perfect Little Set Battery Lasts a Long Time *by C***1 on Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on March 23, 2015* This is an excellent set! I love the various sizes and the best part is they last a long time. I had one going for over a day straight and still have power. They flicker and really mimic a real candle. Pay attention the the sizes, they are on the smaller side but that's what I wanted.
