So, in order to make 2 trees, I needed 4 photos of each person. (2 for each tree, front and back.)Yes, the openings are plastic, but glass would be difficult for such a small frame. I still find this frame to be beautiful and elegant. The tree itself is a nice weight and very sturdy.Be sure to press the frames firmly together when re-assembling to get the best hold when replacing the metal pins.My mom and MIL both loved the gift. We have a family of 2 adults and 5 kids, so the 7 opening frame was perfect. The only other con is that there is no glass in the frames-it is plastic and as other reviewers mentioned the frames are held together by little tiny pins that stick into foam between the two sides of each frame.
