My first one many years ago lasted only one year. The 2nd one has been working for almost 11 years! i loved the light so i can know its on---the deaths when a de-icer fails can be horrifying if you take too long to notice the heater failure and have no back-up device. The only signs of wear it's showing is some cloudiness in the plastic covering the light. Ordered a 2nd one just to have on hand b/c i cannot imagine the current one going much longer--but it might surprise me. Maybe the key is cleaning it thoroughly at the end of the winter season to get all the pond junk off it.
