I use this as the cover for a very large scrap book for my children's non profit, I bought an unadorned piece from the seller for the back, same color, no tree, drilled 3 holes, added grommets and antique brass book edges to the corners so it looks like a huge old-world book. My intention was never to have anyone sign the leaves so I cannot speak to how that would look, though I envision it would be small. Certainly no room for wishes, just names or initials.You could do a scrapbook to hold cards/photos/memorabilia. I use poster board for the pages as I could not locate large enough paper that would work well with this size "book".
