    Powerful output for 15A rated

*by M*** on Reviewed in the United States on December 28, 2021*

The attached photos show well in excess of 15A output. I expected 15 Amps give or take and had connected it to my 12V fuse box with a 20A fuse which immediately blew. That’s when I got the meter out. The first photo was shortly after putting in a 30A fuse (which soon blew; fuse box is 100A rated so I put in a 40A fuse) and the second photo was after twenty-five minutes or so. Very high output!Although I can’t imagine a defect that would double output, I’m not sure how I feel about that discrepancy from the label. Is it just really really good? Or some defect inside?I bought this for my fully off-grid 23’ Dutch Craft camper I’ve outfitted with additional insulation for 4 season use. The northeast at 44.75 Latitude provides shorter sunlight and often- many cloudy days in row in winter. Not as much solar! My system is a bit less than able now that I’m running the furnace 24/7.I needed a little extra volts. I could run a generator- or! run some wire quite a long distance over to my friend’s barn that recently got grid power. This unit seemed perfect for that. I don’t need a lot of extra and both the 15A rating and the price were acceptable. At 120V input it should barely use ~200W and I only needed 50W to occasionally 120W or so. Though on sunny days the solar and batteries alone are more than enough ‘til midnight or later. The unit seems robust enough to do the job. It looks like quality should look to me.The fan is not variable speed. It’s not loud; it just can’t be called quiet. It took a while running every light and fan to get the fan to come on. Some may not mind the fan. To me it’s tolerable but just barely.Overall I think it’s a good product out of the box. Of course I can’t say longterm. It performed well as a charger/power supply even with a 700W load. It does get warm after a while and the fan does cycle on and off.120V input current was 2.9/3A (~360W) with 14.2V and ~12 amps output (170W) measured. Which surprised me: that’s only like 50% efficient! So extrapolation says that at 32A output (460W, 14.4V) the 120V input would have been 975W at a touch over 8A.I wasn’t expecting consumption to be anywhere near that high. Expected 400W tops. Since I was planning to automatically switch the charger with a high/low voltage controller relay that’s rated for 10A/125V high I’m not sure I want to use this device. Clearly it can make the power advertised as it put out 230% of rated, but can I trust it on a 10A switch? All in all it seems like a decent unit. Just not sure it’s decent for my application.
