They came sharpened in a way that is great for my somewhat-beginner skating. They're pretty with the purple, and I love the silver detailing. They feel good on my feet and have more support than I thought a beginner skate would have (albeit, I am a beginning skater). The only flaw is that the upper sides (where the metal lace-holders are) are bent out too wide. This is readily fixed by tightening your laces extra tight. I'm not sure if the flimsy white/purple laces that came with these skates would be up to it, but I use my own laces anyway. If you get thick hockey laces like I use, they help keep your skates tightened. (I don't know of any skate on the market that comes with substantial laces, so I'm hesitant to remove a star for it.)
