A series to be savoured
I'm obsessed with this series and I don't know how I managed to allow myself a little break. Anyway, break over and into this one which mainly deals with the preparation period before Father Tim retires. You need to have read at least the previous book to be able to enjoy this one. Father Tim is now in his mid-sixties and happily married to Cynthia. They're working out the details of where they'll live once he retires and the consensus is that they are going to extend Cynthia's little house next door. One of the major themes is they mayoral race because the mayor has a wily opponent with something shady going on behind the scenes. The issue of Sadie's old house, Fernbank that needs to be dealt with. We have our usual glimpses of Dooly and some of our other favourite secondary characters. I missed the Audible narrator and the character voices he put on, because I read this book instead of listening to it. I think the next one will have to be on Audible again. I can't wait.

Humor and grace
“Out to Canaan” by Jan Karon continues with stories about the fictional town of Mitford and its unique and quirky characters.Tension ratchets up as personalities clash and unscrupulous goings on are happening right and left. Will Father Tim and his bride survive? Will friends remain friends? Is Mitford ready for change?Karon writes with humor and grace, much like the newlyweds proceed their lively decisions.

Well written and in good shape
I liked the fact that this book, written quite a while ago, was in good shape for a used book. It also came rather quickly. Would be nice if the waiting time wasn't so long, but I did get it just in time as I finished 3 other books.

Love in Action
As Father Tim and Cynthia prepare for his retirement, they find much need to serve in Mitford. They open their hearts and their home to help and to show love to those who desperately need it.Meanwhile, the mayoral election looms, and Mayor Esther Cunningham faces a serious challenge. Plus, someone is buying property in the town and working hard to buy more. Who is behind these offers?Love, forgiveness, redemption, and healing are major themes in this novel.I highly recommend this novel.

Wonderful series, each one better than the one before
The Mitford series of books just get better and better. I'm so glad I found Jan Karon and the wonderful characters she has created. Iv'e just finished reading 'Out to Caanon' and the postman has just popped my copy of 'A New Song' through the door, Now I can't wait to start following Father Tim and Cynthia into retirement. If you're looking for a peaceful bedtime read then these could be the books for you.

Great read
This book is the fourth in a series about a small American hamlet. It is a charming and quite humorous read in which the author introduces and enables you to get involved in the life of the village and its inhabitants. I have enjoyed all the books I have read in this series and have no qualms about recommending them.
